About Reading Power
By giving children who live in poverty the academic attention they deserve, and by intervening at the earliest grades possible, Reading Power serves to break the vicious cycle, identified by research, of poverty resulting in low literacy.
Mission Statement
Reading Power is a literacy tutoring program serving low-achieving children attending elementary schools in North Chicago, Illinois.
Our mission is to accelerate childrens' literacy learning and to develop in them a love of reading and writing.
We accomplish this goal through an independent tutoring program working in partnership with the schools. We believe that all children deserve to reach their academic potential.

"Because of Reading Power's involvement, the students at South have experienced continuous growth in their academic performance on the reading portion of the ISAT test...Although these achievements are very much appreciated, the greatest gift that the Reading Power team provided is that you helped our students develop a passion for reading for enjoyment."
